Bereifter Schleimfuss Cortinaire caustique Cortinarius (Myxacium) causticus Fr. Cap 3–8cm across, broadly umbonate, pale ochraceous flushed tawny at centre, drying paler and shiny, viscid when moist. Stem 30–80 x 4–12mm, base often pointed, whitish often flushed ochraceous, slightly viscid below. Flesh lemon yellow to ochraceous, often white in cap. Taste: flesh mild, cap cuticle bitter; smell strong. Gills pale ochraceous at first becoming more buff to rusty cinnamon. Spore print rust. Spores elliptic, almost smooth, 6.5–7(8) x 4–5µ. Habitat deciduous and coniferous woods, especially with oak and beech. Season autumn. Occasional. Edibility unknown –avoid, many Cortinarius contain toxins. Found In Europe.
